Norman Bobins
Board Member & Assistant Treasurer
Norman R. Bobins is a Board Member and Assistant Treasurer of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority. He was appointed to the Board by Mayor Rahm Emanuel on July 1, 2016. His term is scheduled to expire on July 1, 2022. Mr. Bobins serves on the Authority’s Construction Committee, Audit, Finance & Investment Committee and Real Estate Committee.
Bobins is the chief executive of Norman Bobins Consulting LLC (NBC), which was formed in 2008 and provides financial consulting services to various clients. In addition to establishing NBC, Mr. Bobins has spent 54 years in banking. He began his career at American National Bank and Trust Company in 1967. In 1981, he joined Exchange National Bank, which was acquired by LaSalle Bank. He retired from LaSalle Bank Corporation as chairman, president and chief executive officer in 2007. In 2008, Bobins joined The PrivateBank and Trust Company as non-executive chairman. In 2017, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) acquired The PrivateBank. Mr. Bobins is vice chairman of CIBC US Region and serves on the CIBC Bank USA board of directors.
Mr. Bobins serves on the boards of Pangea Properties, Hilco Global, Halo Parent Holdings, L.P., and OW Holdings Corporation. He is non-executive chairman of Transco, Inc. In September 2019, Bobins retired from the AAR CORP. board of directors after 12 years of service. In June 2020, Bobins retired from Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. board of directors after five years of service.
Mr. Bobins is a member of the boards of directors of the Brain Research Foundation, Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, Navy Pier, Inc. and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. He is a trustee of WTTW Communications, Inc. where he served as board chairman for six years. Bobins is a life trustee of the Field Museum. In addition, he is a life member of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Mr. Bobins is a former member of the board of education of the city of Chicago, having been appointed by Mayor Daley for four consecutive four-year terms. Bobins is the former chairman of the board of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. He was appointed as a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and completed his term of service in November 2013.
Mr. Bobins has received numerous awards including The Civic Federation’s 2018 Lyman J. Gage Award for Outstanding Civic Contribution by a Chicagoan, Illinois Bankers Association 2014 Illinois Banker of the Year Award, the 2012 Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship, the 2007 Order of Lincoln, the state of Illinois’ highest award, the 2007 Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce’s Daniel H. Burnham Distinguished Leadership Award, the 2003 University of Chicago Graduate School of Business’ Distinguished Corporate Alumnus Award, and the 1992 Human Rights Medallion from the American Jewish Committee.
Mr. Bobins earned his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin in 1964 and his M.B.A. from The University of Chicago in 1967. He and his wife, Virginia, reside in Chicago.
